… Many believed in Jesus and some openly mocked him when he warned them about their sin of unbelief. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit that we may have power to be his witnesses of Christ's Cross. Moving quickly from controversy, on the Mount of Olives Jesus suffers his agony for all souls."

PRAYER TO JESUS, AGONISING ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES

My soul is sorrowful even unto death. Stay here and watch. (St. Mark XIV-34).

O Jesus, through the abundance of Thy love, and in order to overcome our hardheartedness, Thou pourest out torrents of Thy graces over those who reflect on Thy most Sacred Sorrow in the Garden of Gethsemane, and who spread devotion to it. I pray Thee, move my soul and my heart to think often, at least once a day, of Thy most bitter Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, in order to communicate with Thee and to be united with Thee as closely as possible.

O Blessed Jesus, Thou, who carried the immense burden of our sins that night, and atoned for them fully; grant me the most perfect gift of complete repentant love over my numerous sins, for which Thou didst sweat blood.

O Blessed Jesus, for the sake of Thy most bitter struggle in the Garden of 

Gethsemane, grant me final victory over all temptations, especially over those to which I am most subjected.

O suffering Jesus, for the sake of Thy inscrutable and indescribable agonies, during that night of betrayal, and of Thy bitterest anguish of mind, enlighten me, so that I may recognise and fulfil Thy will; grant that I may ponder continually on Thy heart-wrenching struggle on how Thou didst emerge victoriously, in order to fulfil, not Thy will, but the will of Thy Father.

Be Thou blessed, O Jesus, for all Thy sighs on that holy night; and for the tears which Thou didst shed for us.

Be Thou blessed, O Jesus, for Thy sweat of blood and the terrible agony, which Thou didst suffer lovingly in coldest abandonment and in inscrutable loneliness.

Be Thou blessed, O sweetest Jesus, filled with immeasurable bitterness, for the prayer which flowed in trembling agony from Thy Heart, so truly human and divine.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee all the past, present, and future Masses together with the blood of Christ shed in agony in the Garden of Sorrow at Gethsemane.

Most Holy Trinity, grant that the knowledge and thereby the love, of the agony of Jesus on the Mount of Olives will spread throughout the whole world.

Grant, O Jesus, that all who look lovingly at Thee on the Cross, will also remember Thy immense Suffering on the Mount of Olives, that they will follow Thy example, learn to pray devoutly and fight victoriously, so that, one day, they may be able to Glorify Thee eternally in Heaven. Amen.

PROMISES TO DEVOTEES OF 

THE AGONY OF JESUS ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES

Again and again calls of My Love flow from My Heart. They fill the souls in which the fire of love lights up and sometimes even sets ablaze the heart. It is this, the voice of My Heart, which travels and also reaches those who do not want to hear Me, and who, therefore, do not notice Me. However, inside of them I speak to all, and My Voice will speak to all, because I love them all.

He, who knows the Commandment of Love is not surprised that I cannot help knocking at the door of those who resist Me, and forced me, so to speak, by their rejection, to repeat My loving invitation to them. Why, what else can My calls be, full of flowing love, than the will of love of a loving God. Who wants to save His Creatures? However, I know very well, that not many wish to follow My generous invitation, and that even the few who do accept, must strive hard to receive Me.

Well then! I shall show even more, generosity (as if I had not been generous enough up to now), and I shall do this by giving all of you a precious Gem of My Love. I have decided to open a dam, in order to let flow the torrent of My Graces, which My Heart can no longer hold back.

Look what I have to offer you in return for a little love from you:

1. To all those who remember My Agony, with love and devotion, at least once a day; forgiveness of all sins and the certainty of salvation for their souls in the hour of their death.

2. Total and everlasting repentance to those who will have a Mass celebrated in honour of My AgonisingSuffering in the Garden of Gethsemane.

3. Success in spiritual matters to all those, who impress on others, love and devotion to My Agonies on the Mount of Olives.

4. Finally, and in order to prove to you that I want to break open a dam of My Heart so as to let flow a flood of My Graces, I promise those who spread this devotion to My agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, the following three graces:

a          Total and final victory over the worst temptation to which they are subjected;

b.         Direct power to save poor souls from purgatory;

c.         Great enlightenment and strength to fulfil My Will.

All of these, My precious gifts, I will definitely give to those who carry what I had said, and who, therefore, remember and venerate with love and sympathy. My great, incomprehensible Agony on the Mount of Olives.

Traditional May Crowning held at the Shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury

A traditional May Crowning was held at the Shrine of Our Lady of Glastonbury on Trinity Sunday, May 31st, at the 11:00 Mass. 

Pictured above with Fr James are some of the many children who took part. Fresh flowers and a circlet or crown of blossoms were provided by parishioners, and during the procession and crowning, the congregation and choir sang a very old hymn, familiar to many, “Bring Flowers of the Rarest”.  Fr James explained in his homily the nearness of Mary to all three persons of the Trinity–and the fact that at the Annunciation the Angel Gabriel mentions, for the first time in the Scriptures, the concept of the Trinity, the three persons who will make our salvation possible through Mary’s “yes”.

Founder of Heralds of the Gospel, Msgr. João Clá Dias, endorses Cistercian initiative

Earlier this year the Founder and President of the Heralds of the Gospel, Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, EP, has endorsed the initiative of the Cistercian Order and the Benedictine Congregation of Solesmes to have Saint Gertrude be declared a Doctor of the Catholic Church.

The full text of the letter sent by the Founder of the Heralds to His Holiness Pope Francis follows:

Your Holiness,

It is with joy and satisfaction that I would like to endorse the zealous initiative promoted by the Cistercian Order and the Benedictine Congregation of Solesmes to request from you that Saint Gertrude of Helfta be declared a Doctor of the Catholic Church.

It is really worthy of attention to note that St. Gertrude, in a short life of 45 years, was the author of theological writings that are worthy of praise due to the originality, universality and contemporaneousness that they continue to have to this day. Her works give the Holy Church a doctrine of great spiritual elevation, marked and guaranteed at the same time by the testimony of a life of evident sanctity.

At the present moment that the Church and the world are experiencing – where the necessity of the appearance of examples that cause enthusiasm due to the glow of wisdom and the joy of a holy life that all are seeking without knowing of it – the propagation of the figure and thought of a cultured religious woman of great intelligence, who was able to enjoy living on this earth with her eyes directed to Heaven, could turn out to be an extraordinary reference point for so many who, in the midst of the disordered clashes of present-day thinking still desire to hold on to the cornerstone of Christian thought and happiness.

St. Gertrude is also a specific reference point for consecrated souls, for those who are experiencing the temptations of mediocrity, of abandonment of the first Love, of the weakening or loss of the religious ideals. Being herself a consecrated person, she confesses her own conversion when she was 26 years old, having already gone through so many years of religious life, and gives testimony of the new direction that her cloistered life took, thanks to divine intervention. She understood then how the Sequela Christi, that previously seemed unendurable to her, became “an easy and light yoke”. She was the object of a special mission due to the mystical revelations that preannounced the apostles of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, such as St. John Eudes and Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.

Our Lord Himself declared to her: “I desire that your writings be an incontestable testimony of my divine love, for the last times.” Therefore, the doctrines that Our Lord confided to her will be the mark, the keystone for men of an historical epoch who will need to know more than ever the nature of Divine Love.

This marvelous thought was expressed by Saint Gertrude in her work: “Legatus divinae pietatis”, divided into five books, and in the “Excertitia”, profound meditations on the most transcendental moments of Christian and monastic life.

As the Founder and General President of the Heralds of the Gospel, I feel that this great Saint whom Christ Himself called the “Herald of Divine Love,” is also ours. Her theological writings are in fact a proclamation of this Love, they have the backing of various doctors in the Church, and they continue to become known not only in Europe but also in our Latin America. I believe that the proclamation by Your Holiness of Saint Gertrude of Helfta as a Doctor of the Church will contribute greatly to give larger prominence to the figure of this “strong woman,” that will help so many consecrated souls in the restoring of the first Love, and so many who thirst for Happiness and Truth to drink in the spring of the thought, experiences and virtues propagated by this great Master.

Reverently kissing the Fisherman’s Ring, I implore your paternal blessing on all the family of the Heralds of the Gospel.

Three years old boy terminal ill dreams to be a priest and to "celebrate Mass"

Every child has his own dreams. Some prefer to be superheroes to fight evil forces; others wish to choose a profession, such as being a doctor, engineer or architect. But Rafael has a different dream, quite unusual at his age: to become a priest.

Rafael Freitas, who is only three years old, suffers from cancer for the last 10 months at the Barretos Cancer Hospital, in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and he likes to attend Mass every day in the hospital's chapel.

He has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, meaning that he has a malignant tumor that develops in the nerve tissue of the adrenal glands.

Nevertheless, Rafael knows that, like a superhero, he needs to fight against evil. In his room he has a sort of an altar where he enacts the "moment of communion" dressed with a garment similar as the one the priest uses for Mass. He dreams of being a priest and one day, who knows, to celebrate Mass in the Sistine Chapel.

Rafael's mother, Patriana Silva Freitas, said that already when he was two years old his entertainment was to "celebrate Mass" at home. "His father and I we are ministers of the Eucharist. He always came with us to Mass and he paid attention in everything remembering by heart what the priest would say" she said.

At the hospital he met Father Sergio, the priest who celebrates Mass at the hospital's chapel. Fr. Sergio offered him a robe, and some other objects that are used for Mass, making Rafael very happy.

"He is a miracle. He fights for his life. We gave him the name of Rafael, in reference to the angel of healing. He is a gift from God and God willing he will recover and give us much joy" the mother said. (LMI)
